Description of the course

(This course provides an overview of information systems in the business world. It presents an organizational view of how to use information technology to create competitive firms, manage global organizations, and provide useful products and services to customers. This course will cover topics such as introduction to computer base information system, using IT and IS for competitive advantages, organization transformation, office automation and virtual organization, system acquisition and development, functional systems, executive information system, strategic information systems, decision support systems, knowledge base systems, managing data and computer security.

Course Objectives

• Provides an overview of information systems in the business world
• Help the students to be familiars with the basic theories, concepts, methods, and terminology used in information systems.
• Teach the students how organizations use information systems.
• Guide the students on how to distinguish between different types of information systems.
• Provide the necessary knowledge that helps the students to describe how information systems are used strategically and tactically in business.
• Describe the typical hardware, software, data, and telecommunications used in information systems.
• Be able to comprehend and construct entity-relationship diagrams and data flow diagrams.
• Be able to conduct an ethical analysis of an information systems issue and take responsible action.
